The 55th YEAR
This year, we are celebrating the fifty-fifth anniversary of the foundation of Ege University. This may seem as a long era for a human life, but for an institution like a university, fifty-five years might be apprehended as a rather concise period of time. Albeit, compared with the hundreds of years old European universities, our universities may give a considerably juvenile impression. Our fifty five year old Ege University stands as the fourth senior university of Turkey and this is a significant chronologic indicator.
However, dates, the shorter or longer timelines are not the sole indicators of chronological odysseys of the universities. The social, the economic and the cultural transformations, experienced by our country, have great momentousness over the tempo.
During the last fifty-five years, our country has overcome very important social transformations. Huge technologic innovations accompanied the social transformations from agrarian society to urban society and from agricultural production to industrial production. All these factors enabled our universities to achieve a broader spectrum of historical perception in a rather short period.
Our university accomplished a diverse array of attainments. We have established distinctive faculties, departments, and vocational high schools, and as being a developed one, stemmed new universities. The fifty-five years odyssey of Ege University embraced numerous successful achievements. Ege University pioneered multifarious educational and scientific projects both at national and international level, in compliance with the demands of our country and our society, also regarding the universal values.
The copy of Tekstil ve Konfeksiyon (Journal of Textile and Apparel) in your hand is a good example of Ege University’s successful achievements. Tekstil ve Konfeksiyon is also certainly a great contribution to the project of “activating the accumulation”.
I regard Tekstil ve Konfeksiyon as a gratifying example of our university and I close with wishes of Journal’s continued success.
